Personal Profile

Jimena Sierra-Andrade is a Doctoral Candidate in Transport and Mobility Studies at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and a member of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network TRANSFORM. Her PHD aims to develop an innovative theoretical framework to explore the role of urban space in mobility transitions

She is a sociologist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, specialized in socio-territorial and urban issues. She holds a Master’s degree in Territoires et développement (Territories and Development) from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and a second Master’s degree in Urban Planning and Development from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, both in Paris, France.

Prior to joining the network, she worked as a research assistant at the LISIS laboratory, Université Gustave Eiffel (France), on a participatory research project aimed at designing tools to facilitate collaboration within transdisciplinary teams. She also participated in mobility-related research projects in France and worked as a teaching assistant for sociology and methodology courses in Peru.

Within the network she collaborates with academic and non-academic partners and undertakes secondments aimed at strengthening the link between transport research and applied mobility policy.

Career Aspirations

Her career aspirations focus on working in applied research institutions, contributing to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary teams that generate robust evidence to inform the design, implementation, and evaluation of urban and mobility-related projects and policies. She aims to further develop participatory approaches involving quadruple-helix actors and to collaborate closely with public institutions in transport, urban planning,  and related fields. In parallel, she seeks to maintain a strong link with academia through teaching and knowledge exchange activities, sharing research insights and practical experience to support critical thinking and problem-solving.
