Personal Profile

Mallika Gupta is a Doctoral Researcher in Sustainable Mobility Transitions at the Goethe University Frankfurt and a member of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network TRANSFORM. Her PhD research examines the acceptability of transformative transportation policies in European cities, amongst socially vulnerable communities.

She holds a Master’s degree in Transport Planning from the University of California Berkeley and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from CEPT University India.  Prior to joining the network, she worked as a mobility researcher and transport planner in USA, and India, examining the role of socio-cultural factors, gender-based violence, and racial harassment on the mobility of women from intersectional and vulnerable backgrounds.

Within the network, she collaborates with academic and non-academic partners and undertakes secondments aimed at gender mainstreaming and strengthening the inclusion of voices from vulnerable communities into transportation planning and governance.

Career Aspirations

My long-term career goals include building an academic career in transportation planning and policy, specifically focusing on designing policy instruments to boost mobility justice. I look forward to occupying a role that includes academic research but works closely with governance institutions to implement the research into the real-world. The policy arena I wish to be involved in falls at the intersection of promoting sustainable mobility transitions and ensuring equitable access to socially vulnerable communities that have historically been excluded from different aspects of transportation, mobility, and urban life.
