Personal Profile

Muhammad Zain Abid is a Doctoral Candidate in Urban Development and Mobility Department at LISER, Luxembourg and a member of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network TRANSFORM. His PhD research examines how physical and digital accessibility to activities can be combined into a composite measure, referred to as the “Hybrid Accessibility Measure.”

He holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Transport from Tampere University, Finland and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the International Islamic University Islamabad. Prior to joining the network, he worked as a research assistant on the EU-funded MetaCCAZE project, which piloted electric, automated, and connected solutions in 12 European cities to make transport smarter, net-zero, and more efficient for all. There, he completed his master’s thesis titled Analyzing Charging Technologies for Autonomous Electric Vehicles: A use-case of Public Transport Operations in Tampere.”

Within the network, he collaborates with academic and non-academic partners and undertakes secondments aimed at strengthening the link between research on the operationalization of the hybrid accessibility and practical implementation of accessibility measures in the evaluation of transport policies.

Career Aspirations

After completing my PhD, I want to pursue a career in transport planning consultancy with a focus on urban mobility challenges. In the long term, I aspire to establish my own consultancy that provides services to tackle pressing transport challenges faced by cities.
